What was claimed

A circulating social media graphic alleges that Abdullah “Commander Bravo” Macapaar said the MILF’s armed forces would defend Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa against arrest, even “until death.”

Our verdict FALSE AND MISLEADING. According to Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, the clips were taken out of context, Macapaar’s remarks were unrelated to Dela Rosa, and the police unit had no record of an official statement from him concerning the senator.

A graphic circulating on social media attributes to Abdullah “Commander Bravo” Macapaar a warning that members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (MILF-BIAF) would be the first to defend Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa if authorities attempted to arrest him.

It also portrays the commander as saying that, while his group prefers peace, its members are prepared to defend the senator “until death” if provoked.

The claim misrepresents the context of Macapaar’s remarks. The police clarification distinguishes separate recordings, while the linked reports concern a dispute involving MILF members.

What the police clarified

In an October 30 statement, the Police Regional Office - Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR) said it had initially verified the circulating videos with the concerned police unit.

The office distinguished a video of Dela Rosa speaking with Macapaar, reportedly recorded in 2019, from separate footage of the commander delivering a statement at an assembly reportedly held in Lanao del Norte.

According to Police Brigadier General Christopher Abencia, the assembly remarks referred to a previous incident involving MILF members and were unrelated to Dela Rosa. The concerned police unit also had no record of an official statement from Macapaar concerning the senator.  Remulla did not identify the alleged protectors

At an October 20, 2026 briefing, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla claimed that a group in Mindanao was protecting Dela Rosa and said authorities were pursuing negotiations for his turnover. The government also offered a 50 million bounty for the arrest of the senator.

Remulla warned that a forced operation could lead to as many as 10,000 deaths. GMA News noted that he did not explain the basis for that estimate. Bilyonaryo News Channel reported that he declined to identify the group.

His remarks therefore did not establish a connection between the alleged protectors and Macapaar or the MILF, and cannot authenticate the statement attributed to the commander.

The Philippine Star subsequently reported on November 3, 2026 that MILF officials had refuted Facebook posts portraying Macapaar as providing refuge to Dela Rosa. Why the claim is false and misleading

The graphic falsely connects Macapaar’s remarks to a pledge to defend Dela Rosa from arrest. Presenting recordings from different contexts as support for that pledge misleads readers about what the footage establishes.

This finding concerns the attributed statement and the use of the videos. It does not establish who, if anyone, was sheltering the senator.

Police Regional Office - Bangsamoro Autonomous Region urged the public to verify the accuracy and context of online content through credible and official sources before sharing it.
